RECENT PUBLICATIONS RECENT ABS SERVICE INDUSTRIES PUBLICATIONS Since the last newsletter the results of the following ABS surveys have been released: 8106.0 Not-for-profit Organisations, Australia, 2006-07 (released 5 August 2008). This publication presents results for the 2006-07 reference year from a survey of not-for-profit organisations. This is the first time that the ABS has conducted a survey of not-for-profit organisations. 8126.0 Information and Communication Technology, Australia, 2006-07 (released 7 October 2008). This release presents results from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industries survey conducted by the ABS in respect of 2006-07. Data used in the compilation of these statistics were provided by Australian businesses considered to comprise the ICT industry. 8153.0 Internet Activity, Australia, June 2008 (released 22 September 2008). The Internet Activity Survey (IAS) collects details on aspects of internet access services provided by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Australia. 8155.0 Australian Industry 2006-07 (released 8 October 2008). This publication presents estimates of the economic and financial performance of Australian industry for 2006-07. These data are compiled from the ABS Economic Activity Survey and from Business Activity Statement data reported to the Australian Taxation Office.

8167.0 Selected Characteristics of Australian Businesses, 2006-07 (released 19 September 2008).
This is the third release from the 2006-07 Business Characteristics Survey and presents summary data for a selection of topics including: business structure; business performance; business use of information technology; business innovation; business finance; business markets and competition; and barriers to business activities or performance.

8679.0 Television, Film and Video Production, Australia, 2006-07 (released 22 July 2008).
Includes information on Post-Production services for the first time. Excludes information on Film and Video Distribution, which was last published in 8679.0 for 1999-2000. Information on Television Services was published for 1999-2000 in 8559.0 Television Services, Australia. Contains information about television broadcasting, film and video production and post-production businesses.

8695.0 Accommodation Services, Australia, 2006-07 (released 25 June 2008)
Contains information about accommodation services in Australia. Data includes: number and type of accommodation businesses, employment, occupation, detailed
income and expenses, with selected information broken down by business size and by state. Also includes selected information on income, expenses and
employment for caravan parks.

8697.0 Performing Arts, Australia, 2006-07 (released on 28 May 2008)
Contains information about performing arts in Australia, with separate breakdowns provided for: music and theatre production; and performing arts venues. Excludes information on performing arts festivals, which were included in the 2002-03 issue. Includes information on performing arts venues, which were excluded from the 2002-03 issue and included in the 1999-2000 issue.

8731.0 Building Approvals, Australia, October 2008 (released 4 December 2008)
Provides the number and value of dwelling units approved by sector (public/private) and by state, number and value of new other residential dwelling units approved by type of building, and the number and value of non-residential building jobs approved by type of building (i.e. by function such as 'retail and wholesale trade', 'offices') and value ranges.

8750.0 Dwelling Unit Commencements, Australia Preliminary June 2008 (15 September 2008)
Preliminary estimates of the number of dwelling units (new houses, new other residential and conversions, etc.) commenced for private sector and public sector, by state. Total number of dwelling units commenced by state in seasonally adjusted and trend terms.

8755.0 Construction Work Done, Australia, Preliminary, Sep 2008 (released 26 November 2008)
Presents preliminary statistics for the value of construction work done in Australia. Separate data is shown for building work done and for engineering work done for both the private and public sectors. The building work done data is further dissected into new residential, alterations and additions to residential and non-residential work. Original, seasonally adjusted and trend estimates for Australia, as well as some original state and territory data, are provided in current prices and chain volume measure terms. This is the major source of data used to compile the national accounts estimates for private gross fixed capital formation on dwellings, and other buildings and structures.

8762.0 Engineering Construction Activity, Australia, June 2008 (30 September 2008)
Contains value of engineering construction work done, commenced and yet to be done, classified by state or territory, commodity (roads, bridges, pipelines etc), sector (public/private) undertaking the work, and sector for whom the work is being done. Includes seasonally adjusted estimates of the value of work done by sector in both current prices and in chain volume measure terms. It includes more comprehensive and updated information to that contained in Cat. No. 8755.0
