VICTORIA

  • In 2016-17, nine of the ten SA2s with the largest population increases in Victoria were within Greater Melbourne. The outer south-eastern SA2 of Cranbourne East had the largest growth in terms of absolute numbers, increasing by 7,300 people. Large growth also occurred in the inner-city SA2 of Melbourne (4,600) and the outer western suburbs of Tarneit (3,300) and Truganina (3,000).
  • Greater Melbourne also contained the ten fastest-growing SA2s in Victoria. Mickleham - Yuroke, in Melbourne's outer north, was the fastest growing (35%), followed by Rockbank - Mount Cottrell (28%) in the outer west, and Cranbourne East (27%).
  • Of the SA2s outside of Greater Melbourne, those with the largest growth were Grovedale (1,800 people), a suburb of Geelong, Ocean Grove - Barwon Heads (1,200) on the Bellarine Peninsula, and Torquay (760) on the Surf Coast. The SA2s with the fastest growth were Grovedale (7.6%), Alfredton (5.7%) a suburb of Ballarat, and White Hills - Ascot (5.3%) a suburb of Bendigo.
