2011 Census - one month to go!

9 July 2011 | CO/24

One month out from Census night, Tuesday 9 August, 2011, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is ready to complete Australia’s largest ever peace time logistical operation.

Head of the Population Census program, Paul Lowe says the Census will shed some light on every community in Australia.

“The Census lights the way forward for planning such things as schools, hospitals, roads, health services and public transport,” Mr Lowe says.

Mr Lowe says the Census gives the ABS an accurate snapshot of Australia, but it’s not just the Government that uses the information that’s captured on Census night.

“Charities, big and small businesses, community organisations, students and researchers all use Census data every day,” Mr Lowe adds.

Starting later this month 29,000 Census Collectors will hand deliver Census forms to every household in Australia.

Everyone in Australia on Census night has two options to accurately complete their Census form-via the traditional paper form or online using eCensus.

Mr Lowe says your Census Collector will provide the information you need to be able to participate in the Census.
