Use of Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) material contained on this website and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 Australia licence requires you to attribute the work in the manner specified by the ABS (but not in any way that suggests that the ABS endorses you or your use of the work). The following is provided to enable you to meet ABS conditions.

ABS material used 'as supplied'

Provided you have not modified or transformed ABS material in any way including, for example, by:

    • changing the ABS text
    • calculating percentage changes
    • graphing or charting data
    • deriving new statistics from published ABS statistics

Joint works

The ABS occasionally produces works in partnership with other organisations or individuals. In these instances, the works will be clearly labelled with all partners to the cooperative venture. Where use of the material is allowed by licensing, attributions must be as follows:
    Material used 'as supplied': Sources: Australian Bureau of Statistics; <partner 1>; <partner 2>; etc.
    Derivative material: Based on data supplied by: Australian Bureau of Statistics; <partner 1>; <partner 2>; etc.


Research papers with attributed authorship

The ABS also publishes works to release statistical and/or related information not necessarily representing an official ABS position, even though the ABS is prepared to publish the work as a publisher where it is deemed appropriate. These will be released as research papers and are generally of a technical or exploratory nature. They may include conference papers, papers published in journals by ABS officers (occasionally in partnership with external authors), or papers prepared by ABS research fellows.

These papers can be identified by the disclaimer, usually on the reverse title page, which generally reads thus:
    Views expressed in this paper are those of the author(s), and do not necessarily represent those of the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Where use of the material is allowed by licensing, material must be clearly attributed to the author(s).
