Rise in females doing community service There has been an 8 per cent (430 persons) rise in females serving community-based orders such as community service since March 2013, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). "The number of persons serving community-based orders increased by 2,314 persons, nationally between the March quarter 2013 and the March quarter 2014," said Mr William Milne, ABS Director of the National Centre for Crime and Justice. "While there was an overall annual increase in persons serving community-based orders, there was a decrease in persons serving bail orders (101 persons) and parole orders (250 persons). "The average daily number of full-time prisoners in Australia increased by 9 per cent (2,790 persons) from the March quarter 2013, with female prisoners increasing 14 per cent (324 persons). Males accounted for 92 per cent (30, 633) of the average daily number of full-time prisoners in Australia," said Mr Milne. The Corrective Services Australia quarterly publication contains national, and state and territory information on persons in adult custody and community-based corrections in Australia.
