This group covers industrial biotechnology.
It includes:

  • biocatalysis;
  • bioprocessing and bioproducts;
  • fermentation other than for foodstuffs;
  • biofeedstocks; and
  • industrial biotechnology
This group has seven fields:
    100301 Biocatalysis and Enzyme Technology
    100302 Bioprocessing, Bioproduction and Bioproducts
    100303 Fermentation
    100304 Industrial Biotechnology Diagnostics (incl. Biosensors)
    100305 Industrial Microbiology (incl. Biofeedstocks)
    100306 Industrial Molecular Engineering of Nucleic Acids and Proteins
    100399 Industrial Biotechnology not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Catalysis without a biological component is included in Group 0904 Chemical Engineering.
    b) Fermentation for the production of foodstuffs is included in Group 0908 Food Sciences.
    c) Genetic modification of plants, microbes or animals for agricultural purposes is included in Group 1001 Agricultural Biotechnology.
    d) Genetic modification of plants, microbes or animals for environmental purposes is included in Group 1002 Environmental Biotechnology.
    e) Genetic modification of plants, microbes or animals for medical purposes is included in Group 1004 Medical Biotechnology.
    f) Nanobiotechnology is included in Group 1007 Nanotechnology.
    g) Ethical use of biotechnology is included in Group 2201 Applied Ethics.
