This group covers R&D directed towards exploration for minerals, other than energy mineral resources. It includes precious and semi-precious stones and mineral sands.
This group has nine objectives:

    840101 Aluminium Ore Exploration
    840102 Copper Ore Exploration
    840103 Diamond Exploration
    840104 Iron Ore Exploration
    840105 Precious (Noble) Metal Ore Exploration
    840106 Stone and Clay Exploration
    840107 Titanium Minerals, Zircon, and Rare Earth Metal Ore (e.g. Monazite) Exploration
    840108 Zinc Ore Exploration
    840199 Mineral Exploration not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Exploration for energy mineral resources is included in Group 8501 Energy Exploration.
    b) Air quality; control of pests, diseases and exotic species; ecosystem assessment and management; flora, fauna and biodiversity; land and water management; rehabilitation of degraded areas; remnant vegetation and conservation areas; soils; and natural hazards in mining environments are included in Division 96 Environment.
