This group covers R&D directed towards the manufacture of basic metal products, such as cast metal. It includes R&D directed towards smelting, rolling, drawing and extruding.
This group has six objectives:

    861101 Basic Aluminium Products
    861102 Basic Copper Products
    861103 Basic Iron and Steel Products
    861104 Basic Precious Metal Products
    861105 Basic Zinc Products
    861199 Basic Metal Products (incl. Smelting, Rolling, Drawing and Extruding) not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Treatment and beneficiation of metal ores to produce ingots used for the manufacture of basic metal products is included in Group 8403 First Stage Treatment of Ores and Minerals.
    b) Fabricated and semi-finished metal products are included in Group 8612 Fabricated Metal Products.
    c) Testing of the performance, durability and life cycle of manufactured building materials is included in Division 87 Construction.
