Barley is grown predominantly west of the Great Dividing Range, extending along the centre of NSW from the Northern Statistical Division (SD) down to the Murray SD.

In 2003-04, production was 2.0 million tonnes.

In 2003-04, 31% of all barley produced in NSW came from the Northern SD (604,400 tonnes). This was followed by the Murrumbidgee SD with 395,900 tonnes.
