3. ANNUAL WATER USE AND SOURCE DATA AND LAND USE REQUIREMENTS

A set of water and land use data will be collected on an annual basis providing clients with data relating to water use, water source and land use in the agricultural sector.

The water questions proposed for inclusion annually in the Agricultural collection will collect information relating to the area of land watered, the quantity of water used for various crop types, the quantity of water used in other agricultural production, for example livestock drinking water, dairy and piggery hose-down water, and the sources of water.

A BREAKDOWN OF THE PROPOSED ANNUAL WATER DATA ARE AS FOLLOWS:

3.1 Water used for agricultural production on the holding

Pasture and crops for grazing, hay and silage (area watered and volume applied)
- pastures, cereal and other crops for grazing
- pastures, cereal and other crops cut for hay
- pastures, cereal and other crops cut for silage

Crops (area watered and volume applied)
- Rice
- Other cereals
- Cotton
- Sugarcane
- Other broadacre crops
- Fruit trees, nut trees plantation or berry fruits
- Vegetables for human consumption or seed
- Nurseries, cut flowers and cultivated turf
- Grapevines
- Other crops

Other agricultural water eg livestock drinking etc (volume used)


3.2 Sources of water used for agricultural production (total volume of water)

-Water supplied by government or private irrigation schemes
-Groundwater
-Surface water taken from dams, rivers, lakes etc
-Recycled/reused water from off-farm sources
-Town or country reticulated mains supply
-Other sources

A BREAKDOWN OF THE PROPOSED ANNUAL LAND USE DATA ARE AS FOLLOWS:

The land use questions proposed for inclusion annually will collect a breakdown of the area of the holding according to the main use of the land between 1 July and 30 June for the following categories;

3.3 Land mainly used for agricultural production (area)

-Land mainly used for crops
-Land mainly used for grazing
- grazing on improved pastures
- grazing on other land
-Land mainly used for forestry plantation
-Land mainly used for other agricultural purposes (including piggery and poultry sheds)

3.4 Land not used for agricultural production (area)

-Land set aside for conservation/protection purposes
-Other areas not used for agricultural production (including houses buildings etc)
