Purpose
To provide estimates on the passenger and freight task of Australian rail and bus services.

Description
The survey covers public transport rail and bus operations including the passenger and freight tasks and fuel consumption.

Data are collected by mail questionnaire sent to approximately 15 organisations.

Data Detail

  • Passenger journeys;
  • Tonne kilometres;
  • Fuel consumed;
  • Tonnes carried;
  • Peak/Off-peak travel;
  • Interstate/Intrastate task; and
  • Light/heavy rail.

Geographic Coverage
Australian States and Territories.

Frequency of Data Availability
Data release is irregular.

Historical Data
Data are available for 1991, 1995 and 1998.
