This group covers R&D directed towards testing the performance, durability and life cycle of construction components and materials which are delivered to or assembled on construction sites.
This group has six objectives:

870301 Cement and Concrete Materials
870302 Metals (e.g. Composites, Coatings, Bonding)
870303 Polymeric Materials (e.g. Paints)
870304 Stone, Ceramics and Clay Materials
870305 Timber Materials
870399 Construction Materials Performance and Processes not elsewhere classified

Exclusions:
a) Manufacture of industrial chemicals used in construction (e.g. paints, plastics) is included in Group 8606 Industrial Chemicals and Related Products.
b) Manufacture of ceramics, glass and glass products and industrial mineral products including clay, cement and concrete products used in construction is included in Group 8610 Ceramics, Glass and Industrial Mineral Products.
c) Manufacture of basic metal products (e.g. copper wire, steel rods) used in construction is included in Group 8611 Basic Metal Products (incl. Smelting, Rolling, Drawing and Extruding).
d) Manufacture of fabricated metal products (e.g. aluminium frames, steel pipes, structural steel) used in construction is included in Group 8612 Fabricated Metal Products.
