Record 150 Census Collector jobs available in North West Slopes and Plains
The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for a record 150 Census Collectors in the North West Slopes and Plains region to help conduct the Census on 9 August 2011.
These Collectors will join an army of 8,200 in NSW who will pound the pavement to deliver and collect more than four million Census forms to NSW's 3.1 million households.
District Manager, Chris Foord, understands what is needed to be a Census Collector, having been one herself in 1986, and says that her area of Upper Hunter, to Narrabri and northern Tamworth has the tyranny of both distance and diversity.
"The area changes from plains to rolling hills, with snow at times on the Liverpool Ranges, so a Census Collector needs to be prepared for all types of conditions," Chris Foord says.
"Flood damage has also played havoc in the area and I can really understand why people have taken to using horses in recent Census' to help cover the difficult terrain!"
Having lived in the region for the past 30 years, Chris Foord is passionate about the important role that Collectors play for their local community.
"Not only is it a great, flexible job with good pay, it also contributes to the region's forward planning through the collection of vital information."
"I'm looking for flexible local Collectors who can think on their feet and enjoy working with people. It's a great job with great pay," Chris Foord adds.
Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September 2011.
Applications are open from 9 April until 5 May. Apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call 1800 420 182.
