2300 Census Collector jobs available in South Australia

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is today launching a recruitment drive for 2300 Collectors in South Australia, to reach every suburb and town during the 2011 Census.

The 2300 Collectors will form the South Australian contingent of the 29,000 Collectors required across Australia to work on the 2011 Census of Population and Housing.

The part-time positions involve distributing and collecting Census forms to 740,000 households right across the state, from Coober Pedy to Mount Gambier and everywhere in between.

Census spokesperson for South Australia, Caroline Deans, says the ABS is looking for community-minded, well-organised people to apply for the Collector roles.

"If you enjoy being out and about within your local community you may well make an excellent Collector," Ms Deans said.

"This is a great opportunity to earn a bit of extra money to top-up your usual income, or if you are just looking for something special and interesting to be involved in which is relevant to every person in Australia."

ABS Census information is broadly used by governments, businesses and individuals across Australia for planning and analysis.

Census collectors will be employed from 1 July until 8 September, and will earn between $1,300 and $2,800.

Applications are open from 9 April to 5 May - apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census
