Megan ready to shed some light on Mt Isa

The Mount Isa and Gulf region received a boost today with the Australian Bureau of Statistics announcing the appointment of Census veteran Ms Megan Brown as 2011 Census District Manager.

Ms Brown is an experienced Census manager and has worked on the last two Census campaigns.

As District Manager, Ms Brown will co-ordinate all aspects of the 2011 Census of Population and Housing in the Mount Isa and Gulf region.

Ms Brown said she was excited to be in the role and had already started speaking with local community members.

“So far everyone I’ve spoken to has been really positive,” Ms Brown said.

“People here really understand the importance of a successful Census in the region and have shown great enthusiasm to make that happen.”

Ms Brown acknowledged the distinct challenges facing the Mt Isa region and said she would be working with the local shires, mining companies, and Indigenous and health organisations.

“The support and input of these organisations is critical to the Census,” she said.

“Together, we need to make sure everyone in the region understands how important it is that every single person be included in a Census form.”

The Census will be held on 9 August 2011.

Megan Brown is available for interview upon request.
