Census jobs – shedding a light on your community

Looking for a bit of exercise while helping your local community?

Like working in the fresh air?

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has a Census job for you.

In Queensland the ABS needs 5,500 Census Collectors to help count every person in every suburb and town during the 2011 Census.

Nationally, 29,000 Census Collectors are required to assist the ABS conduct the biggest peace time operation conducted in Australia.

The casual positions involve getting out and pounding the pavement by distributing and collecting Census forms across Queensland, from inner city Brisbane to Birdsville and up to the Cape.

Queensland’s Census Director, Sally Pritchard says these jobs suit anyone who cares about their community and is looking for a bit of extra money.

“Queensland has gone through so much this year. Anyone who wants to give back to their community or just earn a bit of extra money can apply for these jobs. We need people to help out in all corners of the state,” Ms Pritchard adds.

The 2011 Census of Population and Housing aims to accurately measure the number of people living in Australia, their key characteristics and the places where they live.

Census data is used by governments, businesses and individuals across Australia for planning, analysis and funds distribution.

Census Collectors will be employed from 1 July to 8 September, and will earn between $1300 and $2800.

Applications are open from 9 April until 5 May – apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or phone 1800 420 182.
