Census jobs - shedding some light on your community

Looking for a bit of exercise while helping your local community?

Like working in the fresh air?

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has a Census job for you.

In Darwin and surrounding regions the ABS needs around 200 Census Collectors to help count every person in every suburb, town and community during the 2011 Census.

In the Northern Territory, around 260 Census Collectors are required to assist the ABS conduct the biggest peace time operation conducted in Australia.

The casual positions involve getting out and pounding the pavement by distributing and collecting Census forms across Northern Territory towns from Alice Springs to Darwin.

Northern Territory ABS Regional Director, Tom Joseph says the jobs suit anyone who cares about their community and is looking for a bit of extra income.

“The Census is shedding some light on Northern Australia. It’s providing essential data to decision makers and communities to help plan for a brighter future,” Mr Joseph says.

“This is an ideal time for part-time workers, students and semi retirees to earn some extra cash while helping out the community.”

Census data is used by governments, businesses and individuals across Australia for planning, analysis and funds distribution.

Census Collectors will be employed from 1 July to 8 September, and will earn between $1300 and $2800.

They will join a Census workforce of more than 1,000 people across the Northern Territory.
