Census seeking thousands
One of Victoria's largest peacetime recruitment drives will shortly come to a close, as the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) urges people to put in their last minute collector job applications.
State-wide 7,000 people are needed to work in these positions, which will involve the delivery and collection of census forms to households in an allocated area.
Census Director for Victoria, Sam Thomas said "while we have had thousands of applications to date, we still need more people to apply."
He added, "being a collector is a fantastic opportunity to participate in your local community and shed some light on Australia."
Census collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September.
To be a census collector, a person must be either an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia, at least 18 years old and have access to a vehicle and telephone.
