Record 480 Census Collector jobs available in the Illawarra
The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for a record 480 Census Collectors in the Illawarra region to help conduct the Census on 9 August 2011.
These Collectors will join an army of 8,200 in NSW who will pound the pavement to deliver and collect more than four million Census forms to NSW's 3.1 million households.
Former Wollongong City Councillor and State Member of Parliament, Ian McManus, is just one of the many committed Census Area Supervisors currently looking for quality local Collectors to help him get the job done.
Ian McManus, who retired from public office in 2003, has lived in the Illawarra region for more than 60 years and is taking up the challenge to work on his first Census this year.
Ian has used Census information and statistics extensively throughout his career to plan facilities for the City of Wollongong and the Illawarra.
"Good statistics are critical for planning services and checking population growth. I'm proud to be working on the Census," Ian McManus says.
With strong roots in the community, including previous membership of the Helensburgh Lions Club and Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club, Ian is looking for quality local Census Collectors.
“My area takes in water catchments and dense bushland. There are many hard to reach houses that can only be reached by dirt track."
"I'm really looking for good local Collectors who know their area and want to serve their community while making some extra cash," Ian adds.
Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September 2011.
Applications are open from 9 April until 5 May. Apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call 1800 420 182.
