The illustrious Ella brothers showed their support for the 2011 Census at the Annual Ella 7's National Indigenous Rugby Tournament in Coffs Harbour last weekend donning "I support Census" t-shirts throughout the day.
The namesakes of the event Gary, Mark and Glen Ella joined their brother Rod Ella, a Local Engagement Manager with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), to highlight the importance of the Census to Aboriginal Australia.
NSW Census Director Mark Harding said that the ABS is very lucky to have Rod Ella on the 2011 Census team.
"Rod brings experience and passion to the team. His rich knowledge and community connections are truly invaluable."
Rod Ella said a good Census count can make a real difference.
"Counting all community members in the Census in August this year is important. It helps show where things like health clinics, schools, roads and other important services should be.
"At the moment we are undertaking our largest ever drive to recruit people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
"We have many jobs for local people who can be supervisors, collectors and assistants, and we will provide good training and support," he said.
The Ella 7's tournament organised by the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Team aims to affect positive change in the number of young Aboriginal men and women participating in Rugby Union.
This year's tournament attracted a record 44 teams from across Australia with bad weather failing to dampen the spirit of the day.
