Registering
For the purpose of this exercise you will need to be a registered user. To register:
1. Click the "Register" button.
2. Fill in all the fields including choosing and answering the secret question.
3. Click the 'Submit" button.
4. You will receive a confirmation email.
Creating a Table:
Slide 1:
Welcome to Creating a Table in CDATA Online.
This is an interactive tutorial for those people who are registered users of CDATA Online. If you are not a registered user then please view the tutorial called "How to become a CDATA Online Registered User".
During this interactive tutorial you will be prompted to select a link please use your mouse to select the appropriate link before moving onto the next screen.
You can pause, fast forward, rewind or stop the tutorial at any time.
Some buttons may not be visible if using Closed Captioning. To access these buttons please turn Closed Captioning on and off as needed.
To begin please select the "Create a Table" button on this screen.

After logging in, the first screen asks: "What do you want to do"?
As a registered user you have the option to go straight to your previously saved tables or create a new table. For this example we will create a new table.
Click on the radio button next to "Create a new table, chart and thematic map".

Click on the "Next" button.

2006 is already selected as the default Census Year. Choose a method of navigation, in this case "Select By Location".
This indicates that you want to choose your location first.

Click on the "Next" button.

Having chosen "By location", CDATA Online take you to the geography screens. Here you have three options to choose from to find the geographic area you would like in the table. They are "Search", "Address Search" and "Browse", for this exercise stay on the "Browse" tab.
Click on the drop down list and select "State".

The results box will appear and all the "States" will be listed with a tick box to allow you to select the ones you would like to appear in your table.
For this example we will select each State individually.
Start by selecting the "Australian Capital Territory" tick box and then select each State's tick box as prompted.

Please NOTE: If you have chosen only a few areas you can click the "Update Map" button so that you can see a map of the areas you have chosen. If you selected all the "States" then the map image would be the same as you can see here.

Click on the "Next" button.

Select a method of counting; "Place of Usual Residence" is the default but you can change that by clicking on "Location on Census night".
Once the method of count is selected a list of topics relevant to the method of count will be available to select from.

Now select a topic, you have two ways to select the topic you are interested in, either "Topic List" or "Topic Search". For this example we will use the "Topic List".
Please click on the, "Select a Topic" drop down list.

The results box will appear. It lists a selection of pre-defined tables available for your chosen topic. You can start with these or you can select the "Create my own ethnicity table" option to start with an empty table.
Please select "Age by Sex" then Click the "Next" button.

The table is now loading the new information, after a few seconds the table will appear in the "Table View" screen.
NOTE: The larger your chosen table, the longer it will take for your table to be displayed.

Your table should look something like this.
You can remove a data item from your table by using the drag and drop method.
Click and hold your cursor on the "Sex Male/Female" item heading.
When you hover your cursor over the item it will change colour to indicate it has been chosen and your cursor will change into a 4-way arrow as shown.

As you drag the item over the garbage bin, the bin will open and you can drop the data item in. It is now removed from the table.

You can also move a data item to another location by using the drag and drop method.

Select the "5 Year Age Groups" item, drag and drop it to next to the "State/Territory" item, the area will change colour indicating you can drop the item there.
Here's a tip: above the dark line indicates the column position and below indicates the row position of the table.

Once the item is in the row position, select and drag it back to the original row position using the drag and drop method again.

The option to download or save your table as a "csv" or "excel" file is on the right hand side. Select your option and click on the "Go" button and save your file to a directory.

You can save your table permanently by giving the table a name and clicking on the "Save Table" button.

This will save your table in "My Tables" area. This table can now be reopened and changed as needed.
