2009 Workshop on Microdata Access
 

    Rather than a Workshop attempting to encompass the entirety of international practice, this Workshop involved a small invited group. The participants were:

    • Australian Bureau of Statistics
    • Eurostat
    • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
    • Office of National Statistics (United Kingdom)
    • Statistics Canada
    • Statistics Netherlands
    • Statistics New Zealand
    • Statistics Sweden

    Workshop Program

    Day 1

    Paper and presentation from each participant organisation on:

    • what microdata access is currently provided - both content and means of access
    • the legislative basis for microdata access.
    • any other constraints on the access they can provide
    • planned future directions
    • issues for their organisation - be they legal, methodological, technical or resource based

    Day 2

    Review of best practice governance and development models for internationally well established software:

    • Statistics Netherlands' Blaise
    • Statistics Sweden’s PC Access
    • Opportunities for collaborative development of a microdata access solution
    • Exploration of possible models
    • Is a collaborative development supported by participants? If so, what model?

    Day 3
    • Where to from here?
    • Agreement on a governance model
    • Identification of streams of activity
    • Nomination of leaders for each stream of activity
    • Resourcing matters
    • Modus operandi
