- Skill Level 3: AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, AQF Certificate IV, or at least three years of relevant experience
- Skill Level 4: AQF Certificate II, AQF Certificate III, or at least one year of relevant experience

Decorates, adorns or modifies the human body permanently or temporarily using a range of techniques such as tattooing, piercing and skin modification.
Registration or licensing may be required.
Cosmetic Tattooists are excluded from this occupation. Cosmetic Tattooists are included in Occupation 461131 Beauty Therapist.

- Prepares clients' skin for the chosen body art technique
- Applies permanent tattoos by inserting ink under layers of skin

- Modifies the shape of the skin through cutting, branding, manipulating, stretching and scarring techniques
- Uses scalpel, heat and restraining techniques to create patterns in the skin

Designs and applies make-up products and techniques to transform or enhance the features of individuals.
Beauty Therapists and Hairdressers are excluded from this occupation. Beauty Therapists are included in Occupation 461131 Beauty Therapist. Hairdressers are included in Occupation 392132 Hairdresser.

- May create special effects or creative designs using prosthetics, scars and other effects to transform an actor into a character
