SUMMARY OF CHANGES

INTRODUCTION

This information paper describes the upcoming changes to the product Australian National Accounts: National Income, Expenditure and Product (cat. no. 5206.0). Commencing June quarter 2016, there will be changes to series IDs within a number of time series spreadsheets containing Compensation of employees and Income series. There will also be minor changes to the data item description for some of these series within the time series spreadsheets. There will be no impact on estimates or the quality of estimates.

The June quarter 2016 will be the first issue of Australian National Accounts: National Income, Expenditure and Product (cat. no. 5206.0) to include these changes, scheduled for release on Wednesday 7 September 2016.

This information paper includes a concordance to the new series IDs and data item description labels. In addition, mock-ups of the new time series spreadsheets are also available.

BACKGROUND

A series ID is a unique identifier that represents a specific data item. Every data item available in the suite of time series spreadsheets has a corresponding unique series ID. As part of ongoing system improvements the ABS has updated a small number of changes to series IDs. There will be no impact on estimates or the quality of estimates.

To assist with a streamlined transition, users that rely on either series IDs or data item descriptions to load or reference data may wish to use the provided mock-ups to test these changes. This will ensure the appropriate data item is being referenced and loaded correctly.

KEY CHANGES

Changes to series identifiers and data item descriptions

A number of series ID changes relating to Compensation of employees and Income series will be occurring with the June quarter 2016 issue. These changes only affect the series IDs within the time series spreadsheets and will have no impact on the tables included in the PDF file. There will also be minor changes to the data item description for some of these series within the time series spreadsheets. These changes are in relation to the capitalisation of letters and the addition of an extra space between characters. There will be no changes to the layout or content of the time series spreadsheets.

Previews of the new time series spreadsheets are located in the Downloads tab. There are no further changes to series IDs or data item descriptions in other time series spreadsheets, and as such they have not been included.
