TREND ESTIMATES

The trend estimate for short-term visitor arrivals to Australia for May 2008 (478,800 movements) increased slightly by 0.5% compared with April 2008 (476,500 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% for March 2008 and April 2008. Since the beginning of 2008 there has been an increase in the trend estimate series.

Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 1.6% higher than in May 2007.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED ESTIMATES

The seasonally adjusted estimate for short-term visitor arrivals to Australia for May 2008 (486,100 movements) increased by 1.8% compared with April 2008 (477,800 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.5% for March 2008 and a monthly increase of 1.7% for April 2008.
