This issue of Gender Indicators, Australia, includes new data on a range of indicators of social interest to men and women. The Education, Health, Safety and justice, and Democracy, governance and citizenship domains have been updated with data that has become available since the product was last released in August 2014.

A total of 17 tables in the Education domain have been updated with data from ABS Education and Work, 2014 and data from Grad Stats, 2014. New data is on the topics of attainment, non-school qualifications and participation and retention, as well as graduate starting salaries.

Tables on Life expectancy, Death rates from all causes, Incidence and Death rates from Cancer and Participation in Sport and Physical activity have been updated in the Health domain. These use data from ABS Deaths, Australia 2013, the ABS Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey (AATSIHS) 2012-13, ABS Participation in Sport and Physical Recreation, Australia 2013-14, and data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s Australian Cancer Incidence and Mortality books.

Data from ABS Prisoners in Australia, 2014 and the National Prisoner Census, 2014 have been used to update five tables in the Safety and Justice domain on imprisonment rates, sentenced prisoners and aggregate sentence lengths.

The Democracy, governance and citizenship domain has been updated with data from multiple external agencies such as the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library, the Australian Public Service Commission and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. The new data spans the topics of parliamentarians, senior and middle managers in the Australian Public Service and membership of Commonwealth Government boards and bodies.

One commentary, ‘Providing Primary Care to a Person with a Disability’ has been updated with data from the Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers, 2012 (cat. no. 4430.0).

The Gender Indicators product features a total of 52 indicators, each with a Key series and many with related supporting measures. Indicators are spread across six major areas of social concern for gender equality (Economic security, Education, Health, Work and family balance, Safety and justice, and Democracy, governance and citizenship). For a quick overview of all results, visit the Summary of Key Series page.
