Wheat growing in South Australia is dependent on receiving adequate rainfall in the planting and growing periods from April to November. In 2003-04, production was 3.5 million tonnes.

In 2003-04, 41% of all wheat produced in South Australia came from the Eyre Statistical Division (1.4 million tonnes) and 28% came from the Yorke and Lower North Statistical Division (960,900 tonnes).
