FUNDING BY CATEGORY

In 2010-11 the estimate of expenditure on cultural activities, funded by the state and territory governments, was $3,118.8m. This was an increase of $42.1m from 2009-10, made up of a $79.1m fall in Heritage and a $121.2m rise in Arts. (Tables 3 and 4)

Individual state and territory government's expenditure on cultural activities closely reflected population size, with the more populous states of New South Wales ($835.4m), Victoria ($580.4m), Queensland ($568.1m) and Western Australia ($556.8m) spending more funds in 2010-11 than South Australia ($296.3m), Tasmania ($114.3m), the Australian Capital Territory ($89.3m), and the Northern Territory ($78.1m).
