Overview
In 2011-12, the estimate of cultural expenditure by the Australian Capital Territory Government increased 31% to $117.0m which was 4% of the total cultural expenditure by state and territory governments. Over two-thirds (68%) of cultural expenditure by the Australian Capital Territory Government was for recurrent activities. The estimate of per person expenditure by the Australian Capital Territory Government was $315.40.
In 2011-12, the estimate of expenditure by the Australian Capital Territory Government on Heritage activities increased by 29% to $85.1m. Expenditure on Environmental heritage rose 93% in 2011-12 following a 27% fall in 2010-11 and accounted for 72% of the expenditure of Heritage funds. In 2011-12 reduced levels of expenditure were reported for Other museums and cultural heritage (down 42%), Libraries (down 28%) and Art museums (down 36%).

In 2011-12, the estimate of expenditure of Australian Capital Territory funds on Arts activities rose 36% to $31.9m. Performing arts venues accounted for 32% of all Arts expenditure in 2011-12. Expenditure on Visual arts and crafts and Other arts rose 33% and 58% respectively.
