ANALYSIS - TOTAL RETAIL TOTAL RETAIL - QUARTERLY In volume terms, the seasonally adjusted estimate for the September quarter 2018 rose 0.2%, following a rise of 1.0% in the June quarter 2018 and a rise of 0.3% in the March quarter 2018. In the September quarter 2018, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Other retailing (2.2%), and Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (1.2%). Food retailing was relatively unchanged (0.0%). There were falls for Household goods retailing (-0.7%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessories retailing (-0.6%), and Department stores (-0.8%). The Implicit Price Deflator for Australian turnover rose 0.4% in seasonally adjusted terms in the September quarter 2018. TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE The following states and territories rose in trend terms in September 2018: Victoria (0.3%), New South Wales (0.2%), Queensland (0.3%), South Australia (0.2%), and Tasmania (0.5%). The Australian Capital Territory was relatively unchanged (0.0%). Western Australia (-0.1%) and the Northern Territory (-0.9%) both fell in trend terms in September 2018. The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in September 2018: Victoria (0.7%), Queensland (0.4%), South Australia (0.4%), and Tasmania (0.7%). Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory were both relatively unchanged (0.0%). New South Wales (-0.4%) and the Northern Territory (-1.0%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in September 2018. In the September quarter 2018, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms in the following states: Victoria (0.7%), Queensland (0.5%), New South Wales (0.3%), Tasmania (1.0%), and South Australia (0.2%). Western Australia (-1.2%), the Northern Territory (-3.1%), and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.3%) all fell in the September quarter 2018.
