INDUSTRY TRENDS FOOD RETAILING There has been moderate trend growth for at least 15 months. New South Wales (eight months), Victoria (two months), Queensland (five months), South Australia (three months) have had moderate growth. The Australian Capital Territory has had four months of weak trend growth, while Western Australia (five months), Tasmania (two months) and the Northern Territory (13 months) have had strong growth. DEPARTMENT STORES There was strong trend growth in February 2007 following two months of moderate growth. All the published states and territories, except South Australia (moderate growth), had strong trend growth in February. CLOTHING AND SOFT GOOD RETAILING There has been weak trend growth for the last four months. New South Wales has had three months of weak trend growth. Victoria has had two months of moderate growth following six months of strong trend growth. The Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory have had strong growth in the last four months, while Queensland and Tasmania have been in decline over this period. HOUSEHOLD GOOD RETAILING There has been five months of strong trend growth. New South Wales (five months), Queensland (ten months) and the Northern Territory (three months) have had strong trend growth. Victoria and South Australia have had at least five months of moderate trend growth. RECREATIONAL GOOD RETAILING The trend growth has become moderate in the last two months following five months of strong trend growth. Victoria (five months), Northern Territory (six months) and the Australian Capital Territory (six months) have all had strong growth. Queensland had weak trend growth in the last two months. The other states were in decline in February 2007. OTHER RETAILING Other retailing has had six months of decline in the trend growth. New South Wales (six months), Victoria (eight months), and Queensland (eight months) have been in decline. The Australian Capital Territory's trend was flat in February 2007 following seven months of decline. By contrast, Western Australia and South Australia have had strong trend growth for 15 months and five months respectively. TOTAL RETAIL (EXCLUDING HOSPITALITY AND SERVICES) Over the last seven months, the trend growth for Total retail (excluding Hospitality and services) has been slightly stronger than Total industries (including Hospitality and services). HOSPITALITY AND SERVICES There has been ten months of weak trend growth. New South Wales has had moderate trend growth for three months. Western Australia has had 14 months of strong trend growth while Victoria (one month), Queensland (12 months), South Australia (ten months), Tasmania (five months), the Northern Territory (six months) and the Australian Capital Territory (two months) have all been in decline.
