1. 'Sources of income' is the variable that classifies persons, income units, families and households according to the sources from which the unit receives income.

2. In practice, 'Sources of income' data are seldom used in output. They are of most interest in social analysis for identifying specific sub-populations of interest, e.g. all households receiving Government pensions and allowances.

3. This document is intended to be read in conjunction with the standard for 'Total income' which provides the detailed descriptions of the components of income and the standard Classification. It also includes the question modules used to collect income data.

4. Further information can be obtained by contacting the National Information and Referral Service on 1300 135 070 or by email to <client.services@abs.gov.au>.
