APPENDIX - DESCRIPTION OF COMMODITY GROUPS

This appendix provides a description of the specific agricultural commodities that are included in each commodity group, as collected on the ABS Rural Environment and Agriculture Commodities Survey 2013–14 (note that the specific data items collected on the Agricultural Census/surveys vary slightly from year to year).


PASTURES AND CEREAL CROPS CUT FOR HAY

This commodity group includes:

        • Pastures for hay
        • Cereals cut for hay
        • Lucerne cut for hay
        • Other crops cut for hay

CEREALS FOR GRAIN AND SEED

This commodity group includes:

        • Wheat for grain
        • Oats for grain
        • Barley for grain
        • Sorghum for grain
        • Maize for grain
        • Triticale for grain
        • All other cereals for grain or seed
Important note: rice is not included in this commodity group.

COTTON
        • Cotton lint

RICE
        • Rice

SUGAR CANE
        • Sugar cane for crushing

OTHER BROADACRE CROPS

This commodity groups includes the following:
        • Canola
        • Peanuts (in shell)
        • Other oilseeds (includes safflower, soybeans, sunflowers, sesame, linseed)
        • Other pulses (includes lentils, navy beans, field peas for grain, faba beans, lupins, chickpeas)
        • All other crops (excluding vegetables)

FRUIT (includes fruit trees, nut trees, plantation and berry fruits; excludes grapevines)
