AUSTRALIAN HEALTH SURVEY

First results

The 2011-13 Australian Health Survey is the largest and most comprehensive survey ever conducted in Australia. It combines the existing ABS National Health Survey and the National Aboriginal Torres Straight Islander Health Survey together with two new elements - a National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey and a National Health Measures Survey.

In October 2012 the publication Australian Health Survey: First Results, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4364.0.55.001) was released. This contains first results from the 2011-13 Australian Health Survey including data on physical activity. Preliminary results indicate that while most Australians aged 15 years and over had undertaken exercise in the week prior to interview, 67% were either sedentary or had low levels of exercise.

Updated results will be released in June 2013 and published under Australian Health Survey: Updated Results (cat. no. 4364.0.55.003). The publication Australian Health Survey: Physical Activity (cat. no. 4364.0.55.004), which will focus on physical activity data from the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey, will also be released in June.

More information on the Australian Health Survey and a complete release schedule is available in the publication Australian Health Survey: First Results, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4364.0.55.001).
