In comparison with other states, cattle grazing is not a major industry in South Australia. Nevertheless, meat cattle are raised throughout the state; the highest numbers are in the South East and Northern Statistical Divisions. At 30 June 2004, the South Australian meat cattle herd stood at 1.2 million.
