10.34 Users sometimes require more detailed information than that disseminated on the ABS website. Where data are not available at the required level of detail, the National Information and Referral Service can provide customised data as a 'user pays' service. Subscriptions take the form of regularly delivered reports. Users can also request one-off (ad hoc) statistical reports. These reports are accompanied by supporting information to assist in interpreting the data. For more information see Information Consultancy Services.

10.35 Information is available on a monthly, quarterly, six-monthly or annual basis and can be supplied on a range of media or via email. At any point in time, the latest version of the data are included in subscriptions.

10.36 Users can submit data requests via the online Information Consultancy Form or contact the National Information Referral Service on 1300 135 070 or email client.services@abs.gov.au.

10.37 In addition, the International Trade Section can disseminate selected detailed data as a 'user pays' service in the form of special reports. For example, data that is subject to confidentiality restrictions can sometimes be provided on a more aggregated basis resulting in reduced restrictions. For more details see Special Data Releases (paragraphs 9.50-9.52).

10.38 All special reports are confidentialised to prevent identification and aggregated to a level that can be released. Other examples of special reports that can be disseminated on request include statistics about:

  • assays (the concentration of certain metals in mineral ore exports)
  • Tariff Concession Orders which allow duty-free entry for certain goods where there is no local industry that produces those goods.

10.39 Interested users wanting special data reports should contact the International Trade Section on 02 6252 5409, or email international.trade@abs.gov.au.
