DISEASES OF THE LIVER (K70-K76)

Diseases of the Liver (K70-K76) were the underlying cause of 94 deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians in 2014. Nearly twice as many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males than females died from this cause, with a sex ratio of 1.9 male to female deaths. This was lower than the sex ratio in the non-Indigenous population, where 2.4 males died for every female death. The age-standardised death rate for Diseases of the liver was 3.7 times higher (rate ratio of 3.7) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians compared with non-Indigenous Australians (22.8 per 100,000 and 6.1 per 100,000, respectively).
