In 2012, the majority of police investigations into murder and attempted murder were finalised within 30 days of a victim becoming known to police (69% or 117 victims and 70% or 112 victims respectively). The offences least likely to be finalised at 30 days were unlawful entry with intent (11% or 22,737 victims), motor vehicle theft (15% or 8,933 victims), and other theft (16% or 80,436 victims). , Selected offences by outcome of investigation at 30 days.gif) Footnote(s): (a) The definition of a victim varies according to the category of offence.
