DEVELOPING FRAMEWORKS FOR AUSTRALIAN SOCIAL STATISTICS

Frameworks are a well recognised tool to support statistical measurement, data analysis and analytical commentary. The primary function of a framework is to 'map' the terrain surrounding an area of interest by providing a structure to define the scope of inquiry, delineate important concepts associated with a topic and organise these into a logical structure. Frameworks can be used to direct investigation or to assess the coverage of statistical programs.

The process of developing Frameworks for Australian Social Statistics is described by considering:

  • What is a framework?
  • Why review Frameworks for Australian Social Statistics?
  • What was the process for reviewing the frameworks?

This is the initial release of Frameworks for Australian Social Statistics. Additional information will be released progressively to enhance these frameworks. In the preparation of additional information, ABS will continue to seek advice from its partners and collaborate with community, government and academic users of ABS statistics.
