DIVISION I - TRANSPORT, POSTAL AND WAREHOUSING

The Transport, Postal and Warehousing industry division employed 568,000 persons at end June 2011. This represented 5.4% of employment across Total Selected Industries.

The industry generated income of $141.6b. In addition to Income from transport services ($113.6b), the industry received $14.2b from Income from other services and $6.3b from Sales of goods.

Expenses for the industry totalled $128.4b. Expenses were predominately Transport related expenses ($50.7b), Labour costs ($32.6b) and Other expenses ($38.6b). Of the Transport related expenses, the largest components were Transport vehicle and other transport running expenses ($24.9b), and Payments to contractors and other businesses for transport services ($22.5b).

Capital expenditure undertaken by the industry was $19.2b of which $8.0b was for road and other transport vehicles and equipment.
