MESSAGE FROM THE ACTING AUSTRALIAN STATISTICIAN
The ABS is committed to a diverse workforce that is reflective of the Australian community. A workforce which incorporates a range of backgrounds, perspectives and talents, supports the ABS in understanding and meeting client needs, and is a critical prerequisite for effective corporate decision making and a sustainable workforce. This will help ensure that we continue to provide a high quality national statistical service.
Through the ABS GDAP 2014-17, we aim to increase the representation of women in the ABS Senior Executive Service to levels which better reflect and capitalise on the diversity of our workforce. The key mechanism for achieving this goal over the life of the GDAP is the removal of barriers which may prevent groups of staff from having equal opportunities to reach their full potential. A number of the strategies presented in this GDAP therefore have the potential to be of benefit to all staff, regardless of their classification or gender.
The ABS recognises that valuing our employee diversity, and capitalising on the unique perspectives and talents this brings, encourages an innovative, productive and fulfilling workplace that will continue to attract and retain employees and make the ABS an employer of choice.
I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the development of the ABS GDAP 2014-17, particularly the members of the Gender Diversity Working Group (GDWG). The GDWG will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the GDAP as well as championing gender diversity within the ABS.
This Plan will ensure that we attract and retain leaders of the highest quality, both for now and for the future.
