OVERVIEW
The scope of the Motor Vehicle Survey was all employing businesses on the Australian Business Register (ABR) who are mainly engaged in leasing, hiring or renting motor vehicles from own stocks, without drivers (except licensed taxi cabs or hire cars), as defined by ANZSIC Class 7741.
Businesses classified to SISCA 3000 (Government) and 6000 (Rest of the world) are excluded ftom the scope (as this is the practice adopted by Economy Wide Surveys). For 2002-03 there were no businesses on the ABR that are classified to SISCA 3000 or 6000 for ANZSIC 7741.
The main internal demand for this survey is from the National Accounts Branch (NAB) who have a strong interest in the conduct of this survey as there is very little information available on the structure of this industry elsewhere. The outputs from this collection are required within NAB generally for subsidiary purposes, and more specifically in measuring the domestic supply of particular products which are used in deriving supply/use benchmarks.
The Motor Vehicle survey is one of the three Hire services surveys that are part of an annual program of surveys targeting the Services Sector of the economy for 2002-03. The other selected hires services are Plant Hire and Leasing (Collection Id: 1356) and Personal and Household Goods Hire (Collection Id: 1355).
PURPOSE
The main purpose of this collection is to provide an overview of the structure, operation and characteristics of businesses that predominantly provide Motor Vehicle Hire services. This information is used in the compilation of Australia's National Accounts, and by industry bodies, government, researchers and others to understand how these businesses operate and how they would be affected by changes in policy or other conditions.
