In 2001-02, the Office of the Tasmanian Ombudsman closed 46 complaints about the administrative actions of local government authorities in the Northern Region.
The majority of complaints in the Northern Region were closed due to the ombudsman declining to investigate (19 complaints representing 41.3% of total complaints closed), followed by no defective administration (11 complaints representing 23.9% of total complaints closed) and discontinuation, withdrawal or lapse (10 complaints representing 21.7% of total complaints closed). Some 4 complaints were substantiated or partly substantiated, representing 8.7% of total complaints closed.
In 2001-02, the Launceston local government area recorded the greatest number of complaints closed (13 complaints representing 28.3% of total complaints closed), followed by Meander Valley with 7 complaints (15.2% of total complaints closed) and then Northern Midlands with 6 complaints (13.0% of total complaints closed).
