At the time of the 2001 National Health Survey, an estimated 70.1% of Tasmanians aged 18 years and over were engaging in low level exercise or were sedentary. Persons in Greater Hobart were less likely to be represented in the sedentary/low exercise category than the rest of the state.
Being overweight or obese was another commonly reported health risk factor, with 43.6% of Tasmanians represented in this category.
