PRODUCTION OF SELECTED ICT GOODS AND SERVICES
The ICT industries survey collected information (from all in-scope businesses) about income from domestic production of ICT goods and services. The list of relevant ICT goods and services shown in the table below was compiled based on the OECD definition (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development 2005, Guide to Measuring the Information Society, OECD). Survey respondents, however, were asked to respond against a list of component items that were then allocated to the categories shown. In some cases, data for income from production of ICT goods were derived by applying a business' estimated proportion of total of goods produced to the component item.
ICT goods and services import and export data (compiled from information submitted by importers, exporters or their agents to the Australian Customs Service and the ABS Survey of International Trade in Services) for 2006-07, have been made available in a data cube as part of this release. While these data have been compiled to align as closely as possible to Production data sourced from the ICT industries survey, users are cautioned that these sets of data are not directly comparable and that assumptions were made in the compilation of trade data and are likely to impact on data quality.
SUMMARY
Total income from the production of ICT goods and services was $63,063 million in 2006-07. The majority of this income was attributable to the provision of services, in particular Telecommunication services (54% or $34,272 million) and Computer services (37% or $23,250 million). In contrast, total income from the production of Computer and communications hardware, electronic equipment and cables was only $3,143 million (5% of total income from the production of ICT goods and services).
