Oats are grown mainly in the northern areas of Tasmania.

In 1999-2000, reduced plantings and lower than average yields, due to poor seasonal conditions, resulted in a 29% fall in production, to 10,000 tonnes.

Preliminary estimates for 2000-01 show an increase in production to 15,000 tonnes.
