As at 30 June 2002, there were 1,199 public hospital beds available in Tasmania. Some 42.7% of these were located in hospitals in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, 33.3% were in Northern Region hospitals, and 24.0% were in hospitals in the Mersey-Lyell Region.
Of the 1,199 public hospital beds in Tasmania, 96.7% were used for acute purposes.
