The ‘Ag Census’ gathers and provides information on the production of key agricultural commodities, land management practices and information on natural resources. After consultation with industry bodies and agricultural businesses, a more streamlined online form will enable quicker and easier completion of the 2016 Ag Census. To help farmers get online the ABS will be holding a series of Community Hubs in regional centres across Australia in July and August. “While the completion date for farmers to provide information to the ABS was 7 July, we understand some people need some extra support completing their form and we want to be on hand to provide that,” said Lisa Wardlaw-Kelly Program Manager of the ABS’ Environment and Agriculture Statistics area. “We encourage farmers to come along to the Community Hubs where ABS officers will be available to help them complete the Ag Census, which is so important to their industry,” said Ms Wardlaw-Kelly. “By getting online the farming community will be able to complete the Ag Census in a faster, easier, secure and environmentally friendly way.” “And if there is no Community Hub is within travelling distance farmers can give the ABS a call on 1800 462 609 for help with the online form.” The information gathered in the Agricultural Census feeds into policy and planning by Commonwealth and state and territory governments, industry bodies, research organisations and the farming community.
