Private sector house approvals stable in July ABS Building Approvals show that the number of dwellings approved fell 17.3% in July 2012, in seasonally adjusted terms, and has fallen for 2 months. Dwelling approvals decreased in July in Victoria (-29.4%), Queensland (-19.7%), New South Wales (-9.4%), Western Australia (-4.8%), Tasmania (-4.5%) and South Australia (-1.4%) in seasonally adjusted terms. In seasonally adjusted terms, approvals for private sector houses rose 1.6% in July. Private sector house approvals rose in New South Wales (13.1%) and South Australia (0.2%) but fell in Queensland (-2.4%) and Western Australia (-2.1%). Private house approvals were flat in Victoria. The value of total building approved fell 19.5% in July, in seasonally adjusted terms, and has fallen for 2 months. The value of residential building fell 21.1% while non-residential building fell 17.0%.
