DECEMBER KEY POINTS
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original terms, the December 2011 merchandise imports were $20,111m, a decrease of $1,365m (6%) on the November 2011 merchandise imports of $21,476m.
PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
- Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms fell $1,465m (7%) between November and December 2011.
- In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits rose $206m (1%) from $20,802m in November 2011 to $21,008m in December 2011. Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $346m (4%), driven by the fuels and lubricants component, up $666m (22%), and consumption goods rose $151m (3%). Non-monetary gold fell $185m (27%) and capital goods fell $106m (2%).
REVISIONS
- Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
